Why Hasn't it Been Fixed Already? The garbage patch will be extremely hard to clean up because the rubbish isn’t all viewable by the human eye. This garbage patch is not seen on aerials & satellites. This area where the patch is, is not an area that is travelled through very oftenly. No one knew about the rubbish in the gyre until Captain Charles Moore travelled through the gyre and saw rubbish everywhere always floating by. In 1990 he made everyone aware by talking about the Garbage patch. The garbage patch is filled with microplastics some not even able to see by a human eye. Lots of the rubbish is below the surface. |
How Can you Help?Prevent rubbish getting to the ocean by beach and participating ocean clean ups. Also using reusable bags at supermarkets. Some countries have banned plastic bags and hopefully this will spread to many other countries follow this law. Using reusable cups and plates and avoiding plastic ones that are thrown out straight after use. |
