What is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch?
What and Where? |

What is in it? |
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch also known as the Pacific Trash Vortex is a gyre filled with rubbish and thrown away fishing and boat resources. It is located in the Great Pacific Ocean Between Hawaii and California. |
It is estimated that this garbage patch is the size of Texas. Different explorers think of it to be different sizes because there is so much rubbish covering such a wide space. |
The patch is not seen on satellites and sometimes not visible by people on boats because most of the plastic has degraded down into microscopic plastic beads. This patch is filled with plastic from landfills and our land plus rubbish from boats and fishing rigs. |
